Our Story
Built on Patience,
Guided by Care
Sung Hok began with a straightforward wish — to create a place where older adults in Hong Kong could spend their days with dignity, warmth and genuine companionship.
Back to HomeWho We Are
A Residence That Grew from a Simple Belief
Sung Hok opened its doors in Repulse Bay after years of watching what was missing from senior living in Hong Kong — not medical care, not supervision, but company. The kind of easy, daily company that comes from sharing a meal, playing a game of mahjong, or sitting together through a Cantonese opera recording on a Tuesday afternoon.
The residence takes its name from the Cantonese characters for pine and crane — two images long associated in Chinese culture with steady, unhurried longevity. That is the spirit we try to carry into everything we do here: calm, rooted, and going quietly about its work.
We are not a care home or a nursing facility. We are a lifestyle community — a place where residents can be independent, social and comfortable, with staff on hand to handle the practical things and leave people free to simply enjoy their time.
Our Mission
To offer seniors in Hong Kong a comfortable, sociable home where they feel welcome from the first day — and where the pace of life suits them, not the other way around.
Our Values
- Respect for each resident's preferences and rhythms
- Honesty about what we offer and what we do not
- Warmth that is genuine, not performative
- Cultural awareness — this is a Hong Kong home, and that matters

The People Here
Meet Our Team
The staff at Sung Hok are chosen as much for their patience and warmth as for their experience. Many have been with us for years.
Ms Lau Wai-Ling
Residence Manager
Wai-Ling joined Sung Hok in its second year and has shaped the quiet, unhurried culture of the residence ever since. She knows each resident by name and by preference.
Mr Chan Tsz-Kwan
Activities Coordinator
Tsz-Kwan runs the Cultural & Recreation Studio with a relaxed hand. He studied music and has a deep affection for Cantonese opera that has brought many residents to enjoy it afresh.
Ms Yip Mei-Shan
Head of Resident Care
Mei-Shan oversees the day-to-day wellbeing of residents. Her approach is attentive and discreet — residents often remark that she notices things before being asked.

Staff Training
All staff complete induction training and attend regular refreshers in communication, elder care awareness and community facilitation.
Family Communication
We keep families informed and welcome at all times. Any changes to a resident's routine or wellbeing are communicated promptly and clearly.
Senior Lifestyle Living in Repulse Bay, Hong Kong
Sung Hok occupies a position that is genuinely uncommon in Hong Kong: a residential community for older adults that prioritises lifestyle and connection over medical oversight. For seniors who are broadly independent and looking for somewhere comfortable, social and culturally familiar, the options in the city have historically been limited to either living alone or moving into a care home far earlier than necessary.
What we offer sits between those two paths. Our Companion Circles bring together small groups of residents for weekly social sessions — tea, mahjong, card games and the kind of unhurried conversation that is difficult to come by when people live alone. The Cultural & Recreation Studio draws on Hong Kong's rich artistic traditions, offering calligraphy workshops, Cantonese opera listening afternoons and gentle music sessions in a bright, airy space.
For those who want the full experience of communal living without the complexity of managing a household, our Residence & Lifestyle Plan provides a furnished room, daily meals, housekeeping and access to everything the community has to offer — all within a single, straightforward monthly arrangement. The Repulse Bay address gives residents the benefit of one of Hong Kong's most peaceful seafront neighbourhoods, with easy access to transport, shops and the waterfront.
Our team has worked in senior lifestyle management for over a decade. We have learned what matters most: being present without intruding, and keeping things simple without making them feel sparse. Sung Hok is not a perfect place — we are honest about that — but it is a genuinely caring one.
